Acupuncture: What It Is
& How a Session Works

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely practised natural therapies in the world. At Aujaswa, it's also the therapy most patients ask about first — so here's a plain-language look at what it actually involves.

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a therapy that involves placing very fine, sterile needles at specific points on the body. These points are chosen based on traditional mapping of the body's energy pathways, and the practice has been refined and studied for centuries. The needles used are thin — much finer than an injection needle — and are designed for gentle insertion just below the skin's surface.

The underlying idea is that the body has a natural capacity to regulate and restore itself, and that stimulating certain points can support this process. Today, acupuncture is often used alongside, not instead of, a person's regular healthcare routine, as a complementary approach to general wellbeing.

How a typical session works

Your first visit at Aujaswa usually starts with a conversation. Dr. Reshika will ask about your general health, lifestyle, sleep patterns and what brought you in, so that the session can be tailored to you rather than following a fixed routine.

Once you're settled comfortably — usually lying down — the relevant points are cleaned and the needles are placed one at a time. Most people feel a brief, light sensation as each needle is inserted, followed by very little discomfort. The needles are then left in place for a period of time, often between 15 and 30 minutes, during which many patients simply rest, and some even doze off.

Once the session is complete, the needles are removed and safely disposed of — every needle used at the clinic is sterile and single-use, so a fresh set is opened for every patient. You're free to go about your day right after a session; there's no recovery time needed for most people.

What it generally feels like

Sensations vary from person to person. Some people feel nothing beyond a light pinch, others describe a mild tingling, warmth, or heaviness around the treated area. Sessions are generally described as calming rather than uncomfortable, and many patients find the stillness of lying down for half an hour to be relaxing in itself.

General wellness benefits

Patients who include acupuncture in their wellness routine often describe a greater sense of physical ease, improved relaxation, and better sleep quality over time. Because each plan is personalised, the experience — and the pace of change — looks different for everyone. Dr. Reshika will usually suggest a realistic number of sessions to start with, and adjust the plan as your body responds.

Is it right for you?

If you're curious about acupuncture but unsure whether it suits your situation, the easiest next step is a conversation. Message the clinic on WhatsApp with a little about what you're looking for, and Dr. Reshika can help you understand whether acupuncture — alone or combined with another therapy — is a good fit for your first visit.
